Bindura hosted this year’s International Women’s Day commemorations for Mashonaland Central Province, with the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa presiding over proceedings at Chipadze High School.

The event drew participation from government officials, development partners, traditional leaders and local community members. Organisers said the gathering was aimed at reaffirming commitments to advancing gender equality and strengthening efforts that improve the livelihoods of women and girls.

International Women’s Day is observed annually to recognise the achievements of women and to spotlight persistent barriers, including inequality and limited access to opportunities. In Mashonaland Central, stakeholders at the Bindura commemoration used the platform to underline the importance of women’s empowerment initiatives, community support systems and programmes that expand economic participation.

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development has previously encouraged communities to work with local leadership structures and partners to ensure women and girls are protected and supported, including in education and livelihoods programmes. The Bindura commemoration reflected that approach, bringing together different sectors to discuss shared responsibilities and cooperation.

Chipadze High School, which hosted the provincial event, provided a central venue for the commemorations, attracting residents from Bindura and surrounding areas. Community leaders and partners in attendance emphasised continued collaboration in promoting gender equality and addressing challenges affecting women and girls in the province.

International Women’s Day activities continue to be used across Zimbabwe as a moment to take stock of progress and to encourage sustained action at local level.
