The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed the arrest of Profutunny Investments (Pvt) Ltd director Prosper Isaka on allegations of smuggling groceries into Zimbabwe and evading duty through misrepresentation at Plumtree Border Post.

ZACC said the allegations relate to the period between March and June 2024. Isaka is accused of importing grocery consignments from Boss Foods (Pvt) Ltd and allegedly declaring to officials at Plumtree that he was importing agricultural equipment, in order to evade import duty.

The alleged misrepresentation was, according to ZACC, committed in connivance with clearing agents Nyasha Moyo and Blessing Kodzawako, and revenue officers Luckson Chikwara, James Dzimirwa and Tinotenda Allen Mawoyo.

ZACC said the clearing agents and the revenue officers are already on remand.

ZACC alleges that as a result of the suspected scheme, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) suffered a prejudice of ZAR2,700,876.45 in unpaid import duty.

Authorities have repeatedly said customs fraud and under-declaration at ports of entry undermines revenue collection and places compliant businesses at a disadvantage, while also affecting the wider cost of doing business.

Bindura Eye will follow the matter through verified court proceedings and official updates from ZACC.
