Government is developing a digital platform that will allow employers, universities and regulators to verify Zimbabwean qualifications through a central system, in a move aimed at reducing the use of fake O Level certificates, diplomas and degrees.
The initiative, known as the National Qualifications and Credentials Platform, was announced by Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Smelisiwe Visvanda.
Authorities say fraudulent academic documents have been a persistent problem, creating financial losses and weakening confidence in recruitment and education standards. The planned system is intended to make verification faster and more secure by reducing manual checking processes that can be altered or forged.
According to the information released, the platform will build on the Zimbabwe National Qualifications Framework (ZNQF), introduced in 2018 to standardise qualifications across basic education, technical and vocational training, and higher education. The ZNQF set out a common structure for recognising qualifications and improving quality assurance, while the new platform is expected to add a digital layer focused on authentication.

Once operational, the database is expected to be used by employers during recruitment, universities during admissions, and regulatory bodies including the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE). Individuals will also be able to check whether a qualification is genuine through the central system.
Officials believe the platform will help cut demand for counterfeit certificates by making it harder to present forged documents, while also simplifying recruitment and strengthening confidence in Zimbabwean qualifications.
The project remains under development and a timeline for completion was not provided in the announcement.
