The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Hon Dr Zhemu Soda, on Tuesday toured Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited (Zimpapers) in Harare as part of a familiarisation visit to the company’s operations.
Dr Soda was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, Hon Omphile Marupi, and Chief Director Dr Jonathan Gandari, along with other senior officials.
During the tour, the minister visited several units within the Zimpapers stable, including the Zimpapers Training Institute, Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) Studios, Typocrafters Bookshop, DigiHub and the Knowledge Centre.
In remarks during the visit, Dr Soda commended the company for embracing digitalisation, which he described as aligned with Government’s modernisation drive under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We should be modernising as this is the thrust of Government in everything that we are doing. Am happy that you are digitalising most of your platforms and also that you are diversified. It means that you can stand the challenges that you can be faced with,” said Dr Soda.
He said the tour gave him insight into the breadth of Zimpapers’ operations across different platforms and its commercial activities.
“I had an opportunity to tour Zimpapers today, where I was shown a lot of work of that they do, from radio, television, print media and the commercial division. They are well diversified, in terms of what we implore. Economically they are supposed to be sustainable, meaning that when one of their entities fails, they must be able to stand from the other entities which they are running in their portfolios,” he said.
The minister urged the Zimpapers group to continue diversifying its operations as part of efforts to remain economically viable and sustainable amid changing media consumption trends and a shift towards digital platforms.
