Madhumeni/Abalimisi for Agricultural Transformation, also known as Madhumeni/Abalimisi 4ED, has launched its structures in the Midlands Province, with its leadership declaring support for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 and saying it wants to strengthen ongoing national programmes focused on food security, rural development and agricultural productivity.
The organisation launched its Midlands structures at the ZANU PF Convention Centre in Gweru, where Midlands Provincial Chairperson Edson Chakanyuka Chiherenge attended as guest of honour. In remarks delivered at the event, Chiherenge commended the affiliate’s stated focus on agricultural productivity and food and nutrition security, saying agriculture remains central to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation.
Chiherenge said he was impressed by what he described as the group’s energy in aligning itself with the ruling party’s development agenda. He also said the Second Republic had created an enabling environment in which civil servants could openly participate in national development initiatives that complement Government programmes, while continuing to perform their duties.
“In the past such participation was difficult, but the current administration has created space for citizens and civil servants alike to actively support programmes that advance national development and food security,” Chiherenge said.
He advised the affiliate to adhere to the ZANU PF constitution and organisational structures, urging members to ensure their work remains aligned with the party’s principles. He further said the group’s vision resonated with President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s agricultural transformation agenda, which aims to guarantee adequate food and nutrition security while reducing reliance on imports.

Chiherenge also pointed to what he described as progress towards food self-sufficiency, attributing it to farmers’ commitment and the adoption of modern farming practices. He applauded Madhumeni/Abalimisi structures across the country for what he said was resilience and dedication, adding that their work was contributing to national food security.
He particularly commended the group for promoting the concept of “agriculture as a business”, which he said was delivering tangible results in rural communities.
Madhumeni/Abalimisi chairperson Peter Nyeredzi said the affiliate would continue to follow the direction of the ruling party and support Government agricultural programmes aimed at improving rural livelihoods. He said the group’s activities were aligned with National Development Strategy 2 and the broader Vision 2030 agenda.
Nyeredzi said the organisation welcomed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (Zimbabwe), which he said proposes extending President Mnangagwa’s tenure to 2030. He described the proposal as a way to consolidate long-term agricultural transformation programmes and maintain policy continuity for rural industrialisation and the development of agro-industrial value chains.
According to Nyeredzi, the proposed amendment would help sustain momentum on development initiatives without diverting resources towards frequent electoral processes. “This creates the policy stability necessary for long-term agricultural transformation and rural industrialisation programmes to fully mature,” he said.
He added that because more than 60 percent of Zimbabwe’s population lives in rural areas and depends on agriculture for livelihoods, continued investment in the sector remains critical to national prosperity. He said the organisation remains committed to backing programmes focused on increased productivity, value addition and rural industrialisation.
The launch of Midlands structures is the latest step in the group’s national expansion as it mobilises farmers and agricultural professionals behind Government priorities on food security. Observers say the growing visibility of such affiliates reflects a wider push to position agriculture as a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s economic transformation towards Vision 2030.
