The Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches (ZIICC) has formally submitted its views to Parliament in support of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No. 3) H.B.1 Bill, 2026.

In a letter dated 16 May 2026 and addressed to the Clerk of Parliament of Zimbabwe at Parliament, Mount Hampden, the council said it was making the submission on behalf of indigenous Christian churches, including Apostolic, Pentecostal, Evangelical and other denominations.

ZIICC described itself as “the main umbrella body” representing indigenous church groupings and said its combined membership exceeds 8.7 million Zimbabweans. The council said this represents more than half of Zimbabwe’s national population and Christian population.

In the submission, the council said it was engaging Parliament as “shepherds of the people” who have worked with communities through both difficult and productive periods, and who felt obligated to speak as constitutional changes are considered.

ZIICC also said the church has been present at what it described as defining national moments, including the liberation struggle, the drafting of the 2013 Constitution, and developments under the Second Republic, adding: “We are present today.”

The letterhead included ZIICC contact details and office address at the 13th Floor, North Wing, Trust Towers, 56 Samora Machel Avenue, Harare, as well as a scripture quotation from Psalm 33:12.

The portion of the submission seen by Bindura Eye does not set out the specific clauses of Amendment No. 3 the council supports, or any detailed recommendations. We will publish an update if further sections of the submission are made available, or if Parliament releases additional information on the content and implications of the proposed constitutional changes.

Constitutional amendments are of national significance and can have long-term implications for governance and public administration, including the delivery of services and the relationship between national institutions and local communities in provinces such as Mashonaland Central.
