Zimbabwean stand-up comedian Frank Chirisa is set to take his work to South Africa with a 19-show Johannesburg Comedy Clubs Tour, where he is scheduled to perform at venues that include Funny Galore, Artistry and Monaco.

The tour is expected to see Chirisa performing frequently over the period, as he seeks to assess how his material lands with audiences outside Zimbabwe.

“The main reason I’m going on this tour is to test whether my jokes can cross over to other countries. I don’t want to be one of those comedians whose material only works in Bulawayo or Zimbabwe. I’m going to South Africa to challenge myself and to learn,” Chirisa said.

Chirisa said he plans to do stand-up daily for 17 consecutive days and will share stages with South African comedians, including Dillan Oliphant and Tsitsi Chiumya.

“In the early days of my career, I learnt a lot from South African comedians because they have one of the strongest comedy scenes on the continent. To now be performing in the same spaces as them gives me invaluable ideas on how we can grow and improve comedy spaces in Zimbabwe,” he said.

The Johannesburg run will be Chirisa’s second comedy tour of South Africa within six months, and comes as he increases his performance schedule in 2026. According to information shared with the announcement, he has close to 40 performances lined up this year, which is above the average for many comedians on the local circuit.

Chirisa’s push for cross-border stages reflects a wider trend in Zimbabwean entertainment, where performers are increasingly looking to regional markets to grow audiences, sharpen their craft and build professional networks.

He said the tour will also be an opportunity to represent Zimbabwean comedy on a larger platform, while learning from established comedy spaces in the region.
