Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has reportedly approved a permanent deal for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford following his season-long loan spell in Spain.

Rashford completed the campaign with Barcelona on Saturday, a season in which the club won a second successive LaLiga title. According to the source material, the 26-year-old finished the league season with eight goals and nine assists, and recorded 28 goal contributions across all competitions.

The same report notes Rashford was not a consistent starter throughout the season, but still delivered strong output, including contributions from the bench.

However, Spanish outlet Sport offered a critical assessment of Rashford after Barcelona’s final match of the season, a 3-1 loss to Valencia in which he played the full 90 minutes without scoring or assisting. Sport rated him 6 out of 10 and described his display as: “Tough,” adding: “That’s the typical adjective used to describe someone who runs a lot but doesn’t finish anything.”

The outlet argued that Barcelona require more from wide players “beyond the Englishman’s extraordinary stats,” according to the report.

Despite that verdict, trusted reporter Matteo Moretto said Flick wants Rashford kept at the club. “Hansi Flick has given the green light to Marcus Rashford’s permanence at Barca,” Moretto wrote on X, adding that Rashford is “willing to make an economic sacrifice in order to stay.”

The focus now turns to negotiations with Manchester United. United are reported to want a quick sale as they plan their own recruitment and are aiming to raise around €30 million (£26 million) from Rashford’s departure.

Barcelona are said to have an option to buy for €30 million, but discussions have reportedly included alternatives such as another loan or a deal structure that does not involve paying the full amount upfront.

The report suggests Flick’s influence could be significant after guiding Barcelona to the league title in both of his seasons in charge. He has also recently signed a contract extension tying him to the club until 2028, strengthening his position ahead of the summer transfer window.

For United, Barcelona’s final decision could have a direct impact on their ability to reshape the squad, while Rashford’s willingness to accept reduced terms may help any permanent move progress.
