Mazowe Rural District Council (RDC) has issued a public warning over illegal land allocations and stand sales in Highwood and Shenwood areas of Concession, amid reports that unsuspecting residents are being asked to pay money to unauthorised individuals.
In an official disclaimer, Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr O Magasi said the council has not authorised any individuals to peg residential stands or collect payments on its behalf in the two areas.
The council warned that any deals entered into with such individuals are unlawful, and that people risk losing money if they pay for stands outside the official process.
Mazowe RDC emphasised that the only legitimate way to acquire a residential stand is through formal council channels. It said payments should be made at council offices only, where official receipts are issued.
Residents who have already paid money to unauthorised people have been urged to report the matter immediately at the nearest police station.
Across Mashonaland Central, local authorities have previously warned communities to verify land and housing transactions to avoid falling victim to land barons and illegal stand syndicates, particularly in growing service centres such as Concession.
Bindura Eye encourages residents to confirm stand availability, waiting lists and payment procedures directly with Mazowe RDC offices before making any payments or signing documents.
