Award-winning musician Alexio Kawara says his upcoming “Mhofu Dzichifara Mudanga” concert is designed to promote unity, love and the restoration of family values through culture, music and traditional identity.
The event, built around themes of totems, culture and heritage, is set for July 3 and is expected to bring together artists from different backgrounds in a celebration of Zimbabwean identity.
Kawara is set to share the stage again with Victor Kunonga, with the two performers expected to renew a partnership that has seen them appear together at various events over the years.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Kawara said the message behind the concert aligns with his beliefs about social cohesion and the central role of families.
“This show is about expression of unity love and joy through music and dance starting from our families spreading to the rest of the world,” Kawara said.
“I am hoping that this show will be a seed to bring back the values of families in our nation. Happy families mean a happy nation.”
He said the concert fits with the positive themes he has pushed throughout his career, and that he wants the music to carry a message beyond entertainment.
“Music is powerful in that it’s easy to penetrate the minds of people. When we sing we are not just saying words, but sharing a part of us with those listening,” he said.
The July 3 line-up includes Selmor Mtukudzi, with Tariro neGitare and Dhadza D set to appear as guest artists.
Organisers described the show as a premium cultural experience that will blend music, storytelling and heritage, and said artists were selected for their contribution to Zimbabwean music and their connection to the theme of celebrating culture and heritage.
“The concert aims to unite people from different totems and backgrounds, promote cultural pride among young people and establish Mhofu Dzichifara as one of Zimbabwe’s leading cultural music events,” one organiser said, adding that preparations include marketing, ticket-selling points and the finalisation of partnerships and sponsorships.
For audiences in Mashonaland Central and beyond, organisers say the concert is intended to encourage cultural pride and community values while providing a platform for established and emerging artists to perform together.
