Left-arm fast bowler Richard Ngarava will captain Zimbabwe’s senior men’s cricket team in the one-off Test against Bangladesh, scheduled to start on Sunday at Harare Sports Club.
It will be Ngarava’s first time leading the Chevrons in the longest format.
The match marks Zimbabwe’s return to Test cricket after their innings-and-73-run win over Afghanistan at the same venue in October last year. Ngarava was among the standout performers in that match, taking a five-wicket haul.
Ben Curran scored a century in that Test, while Brad Evans also claimed five wickets as Zimbabwe secured one of their most emphatic red-ball victories in recent years.
Zimbabwe Cricket has named a squad that includes five players who did not feature in the Afghanistan Test. Innocent Kaia, Graeme Cremer, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere and Newman Nyamhuri have been recalled following performances in domestic and representative cricket.
Zimbabwe will, however, be without Sikandar Raza, who has been granted permission to fulfil his commitment with Worcestershire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast in England.
The Test also renews Zimbabwe and Bangladesh’s growing rivalry in the format. The teams last met in a two-Test series in Bangladesh in April and May last year, which ended 1-1.
Zimbabwe won the opening Test of that series by three wickets to register their first Test win in four years, before Bangladesh levelled the contest in the second match.
Zimbabwe’s squad for the Harare Test is: Richard Ngarava (captain), Brian Bennett, Tanaka Chivanga, Graeme Cremer, Ben Curran, Craig Ervine, Brad Evans, Innocent Kaia, Roy Kaia, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri, Brendan Taylor and Tafadzwa Tsiga.
