President Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe will continue strengthening and expanding partnerships it views as mutually beneficial, as the country pursues economic growth and sustainable development.
The President made the remarks on his X account after receiving letters of credence from Russia’s incoming Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Sergei Berdnikov, and the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator to Zimbabwe, Ms Rosemary Kalapurakal, at State House in Harare.
“Our discussion focused on advancing our shared goals for sustainable economic development, social progress, and achieving the sustainable development goals in alignment with our national vision,” President Mnangagwa wrote after meeting Ms Kalapurakal.
On Russia-Zimbabwe relations, President Mnangagwa said Harare looked forward to deepening cooperation with Moscow in key economic sectors. “Russia remains a reliable and strategic ally. We look forward to deepening our cooperation across key sectors, including mining, agriculture, and technology transfer,” he said, adding that Zimbabwe was pursuing a policy of being “a friend to all and an enemy to none”.
Speaking after presenting her credentials, Ms Kalapurakal said her priorities would include “inclusive and integrated sustainable development”, with a focus on multi-sectoral approaches addressing national challenges such as climate resilience and opportunities for young people.
She said work would also cover “unlocking SDG development financing” as well as tackling social challenges including “substance abuse, drugs and crime”.
Ms Kalapurakal also congratulated Zimbabwe for securing a 2027/28 United Nations Security Council non-permanent seat, saying it was an opportunity for the country to contribute to peace and security discussions and to advance the ideals of the UN Charter and rules-based international cooperation.
Ambassador Berdnikov said his priority would be to sustain strong political relations while expanding economic cooperation across various areas. He said collaboration could include minerals extraction, electrification, energy production, agricultural machinery and technology.
