Zimbabwean company Robworth Construction has signed cooperation agreements with two Zambian firms to explore business opportunities in construction, infrastructure development and related sectors.
Robworth signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Purely Zambian Import and Exports Limited and Nezya Enterprises Limited following Business-to-Business engagements held during a ZimTrade-organised conference on Agriculture and Construction 2026 on June 9.
ZimTrade, the national trade promotion and development body, organised the conference as part of a Services Business Mission to Zambia held from June 9 to 11, aimed at strengthening trade, investment and industrial linkages between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Zimbabwean companies operating in agriculture also participated in the mission.
The MoUs are framed as steps towards deeper regional cooperation under COMESA and SADC, with the companies seeking to take advantage of opportunities created by increased economic integration in Southern Africa.
Under the agreements, the parties will explore collaboration in construction skills development, technical expertise transfer, supply of building materials from Zimbabwe, and possible joint ventures and partnerships. The arrangements also provide for capacity building through training programmes, the exchange of technical knowledge and innovation, and promoting investment opportunities through industrial cooperation and access to trade financing.
Robworth is expected to support construction initiatives in Zambia including housing and cluster projects, and to work with local authorities around regulatory approvals and compliance requirements.
Purely Zambian Import and Exports Limited will provide product and service profiles for consideration by the Zimbabwean partner and assist with construction procedures, logistics coordination and compliance with Zambian construction regulations.
The companies said the framework covers cooperation across areas including trade in goods and services, investment and joint ventures, construction and logistics partnerships, mining and mineral value addition, agribusiness and food processing, as well as energy, infrastructure and manufacturing collaboration.
Robworth chief executive Mr Robert Manyawu, who was part of the Zimbabwe Services Business Mission to Zambia, said the engagements offered a platform for companies to understand the market and identify partners. “Zambia is a strategic market with immense potential, particularly in infrastructure development, construction and related services,” he said.
Mr Manyawu added that partnerships formed through the mission support regional trade objectives and align with the broader goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Nezya Enterprises chief executive Mr John Sichagwa said his company wanted to work with qualified Zimbabwean construction professionals under a formal framework, citing challenges with some independent tradesmen. “It will therefore be prudent if we have an MoU with ZimTrade, so that we have access to credible expertise,” he said.
Purely Zambian Import and Exports chief executive Reverend Agness Chongo said there was growing demand for skilled Zimbabwean construction workers, citing trades and professions including bricklaying, plastering, tiling, painting, surveying, and civil and structural engineering. “We have come to realise that Zimbabweans generally have stronger skills in the construction sector,” she said.
The MoUs are described as non-binding expressions of intent, with any future commercial commitments to be concluded through separate agreements or contracts. They will remain valid for 12 months from the date of signing, with an option to renew or terminate through mutual agreement.
