Police close illegal Shamva drug rehab, operator arrested as viral assault suspect held

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it has shut down an unregistered drug rehabilitation facility in Shamva and arrested the alleged operator, as authorities also confirmed a separate arrest linked to an assault video circulating online.

In a statement, police identified the suspect as Lancos Kuuyangepi (30), who is accused of running an unlicensed centre known as the Lancos Drug Abuse Reintegration Facility at Number 449 Janye Crescent, Wadzanai, Shamva.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Lancos Kuuyangepi (30) for operating an illegal drug rehabilitation centre, Lancos Drug Abuse Reintegration Facility, situated at Number 449 Janye Crescent, Wadzanai, Shamva,” police said.

Police said the facility has been closed and that people who were being accommodated there have been moved to a registered rehabilitation institution in Mashonaland Central.

“The Centre has since been closed with the victims being taken to Chipadze Rehabilitation Centre, Bindura,” the ZRP said.

In a separate matter, ZRP also confirmed the arrest of Micheal Mabhandi (37) in connection with an alleged assault in Guruve after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

“ZRP confirms the arrest of Micheal Mabhandi (37) for assaulting a complainant in Guruve in a video which has gone viral on social media,” the statement said.

The police statement did not provide further details on court appearances, possible charges beyond those stated, or the circumstances surrounding either incident. Bindura Eye will update readers as more verified information becomes available through official channels.
