Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo shared a video from Kenya showing President William Ruto personally driving him to a helipad at Ruto’s home in Kilgoris, where Chivayo was attending a traditional engagement ceremony for the President’s daughter, Charlene Ruto.
In the clip, Chivayo is heard expressing surprise at the moment, saying: “I am being driven by the President of Kenya.” He continues: “Being driven by the President of the Republic. Ah no no. God is the greatest,” as Ruto laughs in the background while driving.
Chivayo was in Kenya over the weekend for Charlene’s Koito ak Chaik traditional engagement and farewell ceremony, held at the Ruto family’s Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County. The event was reported to be part of preparations ahead of Charlene’s marriage to Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaiah Yunke and brought together members of the two families, senior political figures, friends and other invited guests.
Kenyan media reported that Cabinet Secretaries who attended included Aden Duale (Health), Eric Mugaa (Water), Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior) and Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service).
The Koito ceremony is a recognised stage in the Kalenjin marriage process, involving traditional rites, exchanges and blessings involving the families of the bride and groom.
After the event, Chivayo posted photographs showing him and his wife alongside Charlene, Yunke, President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto. He described his attendance as an “absolute honour and privilege” and praised Ruto as a “leader par excellence”, also commending the Kenyan administration’s work in economic development, infrastructure, housing and agriculture.
The Kilgoris visit adds to a string of meetings between Chivayo and Ruto that have previously been reported in Kenyan media, including encounters at State House. Some outlets have highlighted Chivayo’s frequent access to the President, with the latest video offering a more informal glimpse of the relationship.
Chivayo is the founder of Intratrek Zimbabwe, a company involved in renewable energy projects, including solar and hydroelectric power developments.
