Bulawayo employee arrested over Khumalo armed robbery attempt that left 67-year-old employer dead, police say

BULAWAYO – Police say they have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the killing of his employer during an alleged attempted armed robbery in the Khumalo suburb.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the suspect as Kelvin Matambudziko Ndavambi (24). The deceased was identified as Noor Hussein (67), described by police as a foreign national.

According to Nyathi, the alleged incident occurred on 9 May 2026 when Ndavambi, accompanied by an accomplice identified as Dhlamini, went to Hussein’s residence at night.

“The suspect, who was in the company of an accomplice identified as Dhlamini, went to the businessman’s residence and attacked him during the night while armed with pistols, wooden planks and strangled him with a towel in front of his family,” Nyathi said.

Police said the suspects fled after the family raised an alarm, prompting relatives to rush to the scene.

Nyathi said Ndavambi was arrested on 13 May 2026 in Bulawayo’s central business district while allegedly attempting to board a bus to Harare.

Police are still looking for the second suspect and are appealing to members of the public for information that may lead to Dhlamini’s arrest.

Although the case was reported in Bulawayo, police have previously warned that suspects in serious crimes may attempt to travel across provinces, including to Mashonaland Central, which hosts major transport routes linking Harare to towns and rural districts.
