Bulawayo employee held over killing of 67-year-old businessman during attempted armed robbery, police say

BULAWAYO – Police say they have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the killing of his employer, a 67-year-old businessman, during an attempted armed robbery in Bulawayo’s Khumalo suburb.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the suspect as Kelvin Matambudziko Ndavambi (24) and the deceased as Noor Hussein (67). Nyathi said the incident occurred on 9 May 2026.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested Kelvin Matambudziko Ndavambi (24) for killing his employer, a foreign national, Noor Hussein (67) on 9th May 2026 while trying to rob him and his family in Khumalo area, Bulawayo,” Nyathi said.

Police allege the suspect was accompanied by an accomplice known as Dhlamini when they went to the businessman’s residence at night. Nyathi said the two were armed with pistols and wooden planks, and alleged that Hussein was strangled with a towel in front of his family.

According to police, the suspects fled after the family raised the alarm, which prompted relatives to rush to the scene.

Nyathi said Ndavambi was arrested on 13 May 2026 in Bulawayo central business district while allegedly attempting to board a bus to Harare.

Police said investigations are continuing and have appealed to members of the public for information that may lead to the arrest of the second suspect.
