Egypt’s ambassador meets Vice President Kembo Mohadi to discuss deeper cooperation and upcoming AU mid-year summit

Egypt’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Dr Maha Serageldin, has met Vice President Hon. Dr Kembo Mohadi to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries across a range of sectors.

In an update published by the Embassy of Egypt in Harare, the discussions focused on advancing joint cooperation “across various fields”.

According to the embassy, Mohadi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s historical support during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle. He also commended what he described as continuing progress in bilateral relations, particularly in technical cooperation, training programmes and capacity-building initiatives, which the statement said are contributing to government development efforts in Zimbabwe.

For her part, Serageldin highlighted what the embassy described as longstanding and “brotherly” relations between Egypt and Zimbabwe, both through bilateral ties and through engagement in regional and international forums.

The ambassador also briefed the Vice President on Egypt’s hosting of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit in Alamein, along with an Africa Forum scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the summit from 25 to 27 June 2026.

In the same update, Serageldin expressed hope for active participation by Zimbabwe’s private sector in the Africa Forum.

The embassy statement did not provide further details on specific cooperation projects discussed, timelines, or agreements signed. However, officials from both countries have in recent years highlighted technical cooperation and training as key areas of engagement.
