Geo Pomona Waste Management is participating in the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) Italy Study Tour 2026 in Milan this week, in a programme focused on waste collection, sorting and recycling.
According to Express Mail Zim, the delegation is led by Geo Pomona chief executive officer and executive chairman Dr Dilesh Nguwaya. The tour is intended to expose the company’s technical team to international approaches, with the aim of applying relevant lessons to operations in Zimbabwe.
Nguwaya said the company’s intention was to learn from jurisdictions with long-established waste management systems and implement ideas locally.
“We came here to learn and whatever we learn here we will implement it in our country so that we live in a clean environment,” he said.
He added that the company travelled with engineers from different departments to support skills development.
“We came with all our engineers from all departments so that they learn and remember we are also empowering our local engineers. We will continue to learn, and take ideas learning is a proccess. These people have been in the industry for 100 years and Geo Pomona is new but what is important is we learn and educate our people and follow the good things,” he said.

Nguwaya also thanked the Government for what he described as an enabling environment created under the Second Republic, and linked the company’s work to national development priorities.
“We are very grateful to the Government of Zimbabwe led by His Excellency Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, he is the one who is empowering us saying Zimbabwe is built by its own people and Africa by its own Africans,” Nguwaya said.
He said the company was established during the “new dispensation” and aligned to the President’s vision. “Remember, Geo Pomona was established in the new dispensation and we are aligned to President Mnangagwa’s vision that noone is left behind,” he said.
Geo Pomona said knowledge gained from the ISWA study tour would help improve efficiency and support sustainable waste management and circular economy initiatives in Zimbabwe.
Waste management remains a key service delivery issue for many local authorities, including towns and growth points in Mashonaland Central, where residents routinely call for reliable refuse collection, proper disposal sites and recycling options.
