The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) will hold its first-ever Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 17 June 2026 in Harare, in a move the authority says is aimed at strengthening corporate governance, accountability and institutional performance.

The meeting comes amid ongoing Government efforts to tighten oversight of public entities through the Public Entities Corporate Governance framework, alongside systems such as the Corporate Governance Unit and Results Based Management. The reforms are being pursued under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which emphasises transparency and performance management across State-owned enterprises.

In the background to the current reforms, President Mnangagwa in 2019 cautioned underperforming parastatals against complacency and inefficiency, urging a culture of stewardship and improved delivery.

The authority says its current governance drive followed changes at board and executive level. Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi appointed a new board in December 2025, chaired by Farai Chimba. The board later appointed Dr George Munyaradzi Manyaya as chief executive officer, effective 1 February 2026.

Since taking office, the board and management have focused on governance compliance, operational efficiency and institutional transformation, according to information released by ZTA.

The authority recently published a First Quarter 2026 infographic showing what it described as growth in key tourism indicators, including tourist arrivals, tourism receipts and investment inflows. ZTA said the figures support the sector’s role in economic growth, job creation and foreign currency generation.

ZTA also said it has intensified nationwide compliance inspections aimed at unlicensed and unregistered tourism operators, as part of a heritage-based tourism development approach. The authority said the inspections are intended to improve service standards, protect consumers and strengthen the integrity of Destination Zimbabwe.

According to an AGM notice issued by ZTA, delegates will consider and adopt corporate, financial and compliance reports covering the 2023–2024 period. The ordinary business will include the chairperson’s remarks, confirmation of quorum, and adoption of the notice and agenda, followed by the presentation of the Chairperson’s Report, Chief Executive Officer’s Report, Financial Report, Governance and Compliance Report and the Auditor’s Report.

The meeting will also consider audited financial statements for the years ended 31 December 2023 and 2024. Other items listed include ratification of auditor’s fees, noting the reappointment of the Auditor-General as external auditor for the 2025 financial year, and ratification of board fees and sitting allowances for non-executive directors.

The line minister is expected to deliver a ministerial statement covering achievements during the period under review and expectations going forward.

“The meeting will provide stakeholders an opportunity to review organisational performance, reinforce corporate governance compliance and align expectations for the ensuing year as the Authority continues implementing reforms aimed at strengthening Zimbabwe’s tourism sector,” reads part of the notice.
