Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in Harare in connection with the unlawful possession and smuggling of illicit alcoholic beverages from a neighbouring country.
Following the arrest, police recovered 2,760 bottles of the smuggled alcohol, each measuring 300ml.
The ZRP said investigations are in progress to establish the source of the contraband and the intended distribution network.
Police have repeatedly warned that smuggling and selling unregulated alcohol poses risks to consumers and undermines lawful businesses, urging members of the public to report suspected smuggling and illegal trading activities.
Authorities did not immediately release the suspect’s name or details on where the consignment was intercepted, as investigations continue.
In Mashonaland Central, residents have previously raised concerns about illicit alcohol reaching growth points and mining communities, with community leaders calling for stronger enforcement against illegal supply chains.
Bindura Eye will publish updates once police release further details or if the matter proceeds to court.
