Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors will play hosts Zambia in the final of the Four Nations Tournament on Tuesday, with regional pride and the trophy at stake in what organisers have dubbed the “Battle of the Zambezi”.
Zimbabwe booked their place in the final after a 3-1 comeback win over Lesotho in Saturday’s semi-final, according to information published by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
After conceding first, the Mighty Warriors levelled before half-time and then struck twice in the second half to complete the turnaround.
Captain Emmaculate Msipha, Ethel Chinyerere and striker Rutendo Makore scored for Zimbabwe as the team showed resilience and attacking intent to reach the championship match.
Zambia progressed to the final after drawing 1-1 with Kenya in regulation time before winning 4-1 on penalties.
The final is expected to serve as a key assessment point for both teams ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign, with the tournament being used as part of preparations.
While Zambia will have home support in Ndola, Zimbabwe go into the match encouraged by their semi-final performance. The rivalry between the two neighbours has intensified in recent years, with previous meetings often producing closely contested games.
With regional supremacy and FIFA ranking points also on the line, Tuesday’s final is expected to draw strong interest from football fans in Zimbabwe and across Southern Africa.
Kenya and Lesotho will play the third-place play-off earlier on Tuesday.
