FEGMA Mining has deployed trucks, quarry stone and earth-moving equipment to Chikomba Rural District as part of an emergency response aimed at stabilising damaged infrastructure at schools and health facilities.
The company said the intervention draws on its existing logistics capacity developed through work linked to the Harare–Beitbridge Highway expansion, allowing it to re-route a heavy-duty fleet and construction inputs to affected public institutions.
According to internal tracking records cited in the report, several schools received aggregates and related support for foundation reinforcement and stalled building works. Chokuudza Primary School was supplied with 40 cubic metres of quarry aggregates, while Runyaro Primary School received 90 tonnes of stone.
Makumimavi Primary School was provisioned with two boreholes as well as earth-moving machinery to assist with terrain levelling, the report states. Chigara and Tagwinya primary schools each received 20 cubic metres of aggregate to resume repairs. Daramombe and Nhakayedu high schools were also assisted with more than 30 tonnes of combined supplies and transport support to help rebuild storm-damaged classrooms.
Health facilities across the district were also listed among beneficiaries. Mashayamvura Clinic received 20 cubic metres of material followed by an additional 30 tonnes for foundation restoration and walkways, while Chipisa Clinic was supplied with 75 tonnes to restart a delayed project intended to improve access to healthcare for nearby communities.
The report further states that Munyati, Kadungure, Gamanya and Chavagona clinics shared more than 110 tonnes of specialised aggregate to stabilise foundations and support planned expansions.
Beyond construction inputs, FEGMA Mining is said to have funded logistics for local Independence Day commemorations, a contribution described as easing pressure on the local authority budget and allowing public funds to be directed towards broader recovery work.
The assistance was confirmed in the report by the Acting District Development Officer, Mrs Chambok, who described the support as indispensable and said some projects would have failed without the intervention.
The developments add to ongoing national debate around corporate social responsibility, climate-related infrastructure damage and the role of large companies in supporting schools and rural health services during emergencies.
