Freelance photojournalist Takawira “AFANTE” PhotoVeteran Unlimited Nyashanu, popularly known as PhotoVet, has appealed for financial help towards medical tests after surviving heart failure.
In a message shared by journalist Fanuel Viriri, Nyashanu said he was admitted to Mount St Mary’s Mission Hospital and has since returned home, where he is resting and taking medication. He said, however, that he continues to experience severe chest pain.
Nyashanu is widely known in Zimbabwe’s arts, culture and sports spaces for his photographs from live music shows and football matches, where he has worked for years as a freelancer and is paid per published picture.
“I’m unwell. I survived heart failure and was admitted to Mount St Mary’s Mission Hospital. I’m now home, resting and taking medication for the pain, but the pain is still severe and keeps shifting around my chest,” Nyashanu said in the appeal.
He said he is seeking assistance to meet the costs of a heart echo scan and other chest X-rays, adding that the chest pain has also affected his ability to be active online.
“I’m appealing for help with the cost of a HEART ECHO scan and other chest X-rays. Anyone who can assist, to please help me,” he said.
Those willing to assist have been asked to contact his brother, John Nyashanu, on +263 71 998 0799. Nyashanu can also be reached on +263 77 288 4646.
In his message, Nyashanu thanked those who had already promised to help, saying their support would “give me another chance to live”.
