Musician Jah Prayzah and singer Tamy Moyo are set to headline the St Ignatius Festival, a fundraising event organised by Catholic Church institutions to support charitable work and community development.

Now in its fourth edition, the festival will be hosted by St Peter’s Kubatana in Highfield, with organisers saying proceeds will go towards projects that benefit vulnerable communities and strengthen church-run institutions.

Other artists billed to perform include Saint Floew, Voltz, Trinity Choir, Boyz of Thunder, FR Mobbie and Romac, as well as DJs Spice, T-Eyes and Spunj.

Father Ashton Mugozhi, director of St Peter’s Kubatana, said organisers are aiming to raise US$60,000. He said Jah Prayzah has supported the festival since its first edition.

“Honestly, we were looking for popular artists and Jah Prayzah has always been supporting us from the first event,” Father Mugozhi said.

He said the event will be held at Old Hararians and that this year’s focus is on education and employability through vocational and artisanal skills training.

“This current edition has its focus on developing education and addressing issues of employability through vocational skills training. We want to upgrade the infrastructure for the institution through the construction of facilities and the upgrading of equipment that will allow for vocational and artisanal skills training,” he said.

He added that part of the funding will go towards completing capital projects, including a dura wall around the campus, and appealed for support “in cash and in kind”.

Father Mugozhi said the institutions involved serve poor and marginalised people in surrounding communities, including vulnerable children whose school fees and tuition do not cover the full cost of providing services.

Overall coordinator Patricia Makani said the festival is part of the Jesuit Province of Southern Africa’s community support work and a continuation of previous fundraising concerts that benefited St Paul’s Musami Jesuit Hospital in Murehwa.

“Our last three fundraising music concerts were held to support and develop St Paul’s Musami Jesuit Hospital in Murehwa,” Makani said.

“This year, we are back after a one-year break with yet another great music extravaganza, with Jah Prayzah as our headline artist.”

Makani said the church has a duty to invest in its institutions so they can serve communities at a high standard, adding that the funds raised will be used for capacity building and upgrading equipment at St Peter’s Kubatana.
