Creative practitioner Anesu Mhembere, popularly known as the “Minister of White Linen”, and Vongai Stacey Kajese married on 30 May at the Agriculture Research Trust in Harare, in a ceremony that quickly drew wide attention on social media.
Guests were given a themed dress code described as “Subtle Regency meets Texas Howdy Partner”, with cowboy boots encouraged, cravats listed as essential and linen described as non-negotiable. Photos and videos shared online prompted local discussion, with hashtags including #LinenRegency and #MayWeatherWedding circulating across Zimbabwean social media spaces.
Mhembere explained the choice of May as a wedding month by linking it to his wife’s birthday. “My beautiful wife was born in May,” he said. “And we chose to wed in May to make it a May-weather. Not a storm. A forecast of endless sunshine.”
Kajese, standing alongside him, added: “He’s never been this romantic about linen.”
The wedding blended different styling influences, with Mhembere wearing a white linen tailcoat paired with leather cowboy boots, while Kajese wore a high-neck lace gown. Online posts from the event attracted commentary from social media personalities, including KVG and Denilson Musekiwa, while musician Trevor Dongo performed for guests, according to the report.
Ceremony proceedings were led by Curtly Gwindi as director of ceremonies. He described the occasion as more than a formal event, saying: “This is not a wedding. This is a thesis on love without a rulebook. And to be chosen to stand here in true honor,” as he toasted.
Organisers said the event drew about 200 guests and generated significant online engagement after images and short videos were shared. The report also noted that the couple avoided some of the more extravagant trends associated with high-profile weddings, instead focusing on a themed presentation that included music and fashion elements.
