Construction firm Gray Homes Construction (Private) Limited is facing fresh allegations from a Harare couple who say the company failed to build a four-roomed house in Waterfalls and has not refunded money paid under an instalment arrangement.

According to information published by Express Mail Zim, the couple said they reached the required 70 percent payment threshold for the project, totalling US$10,760, but the development did not break ground by an April 2026 deadline.

The company, owned by Annavesta and Gray Mudiwa, reportedly cited “technical difficulties” for the delay. The parties then signed a Deed of Settlement in which Gray Homes acknowledged the debt and agreed to a phased repayment schedule, set to conclude in September.

The couple alleges no repayments have been made.

“Gray Homes Construction (Private) Limited has agreed to refund Felicity Chenai Chaendera the total net amount of US$10,760,” the deed reads, according to the report.

The couple also claimed they could not locate the company, alleging that the address shown on their receipt, 44 Longden Avenue, Belvedere, is no longer occupied by Gray Homes.

Gray Homes chief executive officer Annavestah Mudiwa disputed the allegations and said the couple’s account was inaccurate.

“Unfortunately she is not telling the truth,” Mudiwa was quoted as saying. “Will also send you what we have. The truth from this matter.”

Express Mail Zim reported that, by the time of publication, Mudiwa had not produced additional evidence to counter the documents referenced in the story, including signed receipts, WhatsApp payment acknowledgements and the Deed of Settlement.

The allegations have raised renewed questions about accountability in Zimbabwe’s instalment-based housing sector, where home seekers often pay significant sums before construction begins.

Gray Homes has previously drawn national attention. The Express Mail Zim report said the firm was linked to earlier allegations, including a case in which the owners were arrested over claims involving Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
