Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Richard Moyo, has praised the Zimbabwe Indigenous Inter-denominational Council of Churches (ZIICC) for its collaboration with government in combating drug and substance abuse.
The commendation was made on Minister Moyo’s behalf by Mr Tapera Mugoriya, Director for Matabeleland North Provincial Coordination, during the annual ZIICC youth games held in Tsholotsho District on Saturday evening. The event featured participation from eight provinces competing in soccer, netball, and volleyball.
The provinces taking part included Matabeleland South, Midlands, Masvingo, Harare, Mashonaland West, Manicaland, and hosts Matabeleland North. Two other provinces sent representatives who engaged in an anti-drug and substance abuse campaign around the Tsholotsho Business Centre.
“I want to applaud ZIICC for partnering with Government in fighting drug and substance abuse among our youths. One of the key pillars towards attaining an upper middle-income society by 2030 is ensuring that we have a productive workforce as we build Zimbabwe brick by brick, stone by stone, as envisioned by President Mnangagwa,” said Minister Moyo.
The event, chaired by Bishop Patrick Mahachi, aims primarily to eradicate drug and substance abuse among young people. Minister Moyo emphasised the importance of youth freedom from addiction as essential for national prosperity.
“No nation can prosper with youths addicted to drugs and substances. You are the future leaders. Tell yourselves now that stopping drug and substance abuse starts with you and all of us,” he said.
