The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) took part in a career guidance programme held at Matopo High School in Matobo District on 30 July 2026, alongside other security services and tertiary institutions.

The programme brought together learners and representatives from the Air Force of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe National Army, the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Lupane State University and the Bulawayo School of Theology to share information on career options and academic pathways.

ZPCS said its delegation was led by Principal Correctional Officer (PCO) Tawanda Ruvuke, who outlined the Service’s constitutional mandate, correctional and rehabilitation programmes, recruitment requirements and the range of career opportunities available within the organisation.

Ruvuke encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies and to maintain discipline.

“ZPCS offers more than just employment; it provides an opportunity to serve the nation with integrity, professionalism, and compassion. We encourage you to work hard in your studies and consider joining the organisation after completing your education. ZPCS values its employees and provides a conducive working environment with opportunities for professional growth and career development,” he said.

During a question-and-answer session, learners asked ZPCS officials about recruitment procedures, educational qualifications, training requirements and progression opportunities in the Service.

One Form Three learner, who was not identified, said the presentation helped change her understanding of ZPCS and its work.

“This is the first time we have received such detailed information about the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service. The presentation was clear, informative, and inspiring. It has motivated me to consider becoming a correctional officer in the future because I now understand the important role the organisation plays in transforming lives and serving the nation,” she said.

Matopo High School headmaster Mr Gardson Sibanda thanked the participating organisations for providing guidance to learners and supporting informed career choices.

Career guidance programmes have increasingly become an important link between schools and institutions, especially for learners seeking clarity on entry requirements, training options and expectations in different professions. Organisers said the Matobo event was intended to equip learners with practical information to help them plan beyond Ordinary Level and Advanced Level studies.

Although the programme was held in Matobo, similar outreach initiatives are relevant for schools across Zimbabwe, including Mashonaland Central, where learners often require direct engagement with universities, uniformed services and vocational institutions to better understand available opportunities.
