Deputy Minister of Agriculture Davis Marapira has told the High Court he does not want assets he says he obtained through his political life to be shared with his estranged wife, Sibusisiwe Melody Marapira (nee Mutendi), as part of their divorce settlement.
Court papers filed in Harare on July 23, 2026, state that Marapira, through his legal practitioners Chibaya Law Chambers, is contesting the distribution of property he alleges came from government, political connections or his party, Zanu PF. The matter has also drawn attention because Sibusisiwe is reported to be the daughter of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi.
In the plea, Marapira argues that some of the assets—specifically including vehicles and farms—carry “sentimental value” connected to his political career and should not form part of the divisible matrimonial estate.
“The defendant’s involvement in national politics constitutes a fundamental aspect of his personal and professional life. The assets in question are inextricably linked to his political career, public service and personal history, embodying significant memories, experiences and achievements accumulated over many years,” the court filing states.
Marapira further argues that property he acquired before the solemnisation of the marriage should not be distributed to Sibusisiwe.
The court papers list assets said to be in dispute, including five vehicles described as state-of-the-art. The filing also refers to an undisclosed number of farms and properties, including in Borrowdale, as well as property in South Africa.
The High Court is expected to determine how the estate should be handled under Zimbabwe’s divorce and matrimonial property laws, based on evidence presented by both parties regarding acquisition, contribution and other relevant factors.
