Batanai FC, popularly known as the Golden Boys, have made an encouraging start to life in Division One, sitting just one point outside the Super 8 Cup positions after 15 rounds of the 2026 MCM-Estates Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL).

The newcomers are ninth on 20 points after Matchday 15. They are level with 10th-placed Jumbo Giants FC, separated only by goal difference, and are within touching distance of eighth-placed Cranborne Bullets on 21 points, who currently occupy the last Super 8 berth.

In a club update, Batanai highlighted how close they remain to the pace at the top of the table: “After 15 matches in our debut Division One league season, we are 8 points adrift of the league leaders.”

Harare City FC lead the standings on 28 points, with a record of eight wins, four draws and three defeats. Black Rhinos FC are second on 27 points, followed by Golden Eagles FC (25), Ngezi Stars U19 FC (24) and Chingwere FC (23) in the top five.

Batanai’s first campaign at this level has been defined by resilience. They have lost only three times in 15 matches, fewer than several teams placed above them, but their eight draws — among the highest in the division — have limited how quickly they can climb into the cup positions.

The Golden Boys have so far recorded four wins, eight draws and three defeats. They have scored 10 goals and conceded 10, leaving them with a goal difference of zero, underlining a season of small margins at both ends of the pitch.

With just one point separating them from the Super 8 places, the message from their results is clear: converting even a few stalemates into wins would likely be enough to move them into the top eight and strengthen their push for a cup spot.

Off the field, Batanai continue to be backed by their official kit sponsor, R Davis & Company (Pvt) Ltd, trading as Bitumen World Mining.

For a club rallying behind the motto “One Team, One Dream, One Family,” the early signs suggest they are not in Division One merely to make up the numbers. With half of the season’s work now in the books, the Golden Boys have given themselves a realistic chance of reaching Super 8 football in their debut year.
