Religious groups and youth organisations say Zimbabwe should shift attention from constitutional debate to economic growth, job creation and national unity following the enactment of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Act.
The calls were made during national executive meetings held in Gweru after the amendment was signed into law, with delegates arguing that the country should now consolidate peace and prioritise policies that improve livelihoods.
National Vice Chairperson of Vapostori and Zion for Economic Development, Archbishop Tsungai Vushe, said citizens should rally around development efforts, emphasising unity and stability.
“We believe that now the constitutional process has been concluded, it is time for every Zimbabwean to unite behind national development. The Church believes that peace, unity and hard work are the foundation for economic growth and improved livelihoods. We should not be engaging in demonstrations when the people have spoken,” Vushe said.
Youth leaders at the meeting also urged young people to contribute to Vision 2030 through practical economic activity, including entrepreneurship, agriculture and skills training.
National Chairperson of Young Visionaries for Economic Development, Clyde Chidaushe, said youths should prioritise creating solutions and opportunities.
“Young people must now focus on innovation, business, agriculture and developing their skills. Our contribution to Zimbabwe’s future will be measured by the solutions we create and the opportunities we build for ourselves and others. It is time to prioritise development over demonstrations,” Chidaushe said.
Delegates said the end of the constitutional amendment process presents an opportunity for inclusive economic growth and improvements in living standards, while maintaining peace and national cohesion.
The statements come amid ongoing national discussions about governance reforms and economic recovery, with various civic and political groups taking differing views on the amendment process and its implications.
