Dzivaresekwa teen in court over cousin rape allegations after seizures

A 19-year-old man from Dzivaresekwa Extension has appeared in court facing allegations of raping his 20-year-old cousin on two separate occasions, after she suffered epileptic seizures and lost consciousness.

The accused was identified in court as Chivi. Prosecutors allege the incidents happened in December last year at the suspect’s home.

The court heard the complainant, who lives with epilepsy, was left alone with the accused when she had a seizure and became unconscious. It is alleged that when she regained consciousness, she discovered the accused was having sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

Prosecutors further allege the accused told the complainant that he had fallen in love with her.

It is also alleged that later in the same month, the complainant suffered another epileptic seizure while alone with the accused. When she regained consciousness, she allegedly realised she had again been raped.

According to the State’s case, the matter came to light after the complainant informed her uncle that she was pregnant and disclosed that the accused was responsible.

The case was reported to the police and the complainant was referred for a medical examination, the court heard.
