Johannesburg — PPC Limited (PPC), a major Southern African supplier of cement and related products, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Sinoma Overseas Development Co. Limited (Sinoma Overseas) to cooperate on initiatives aimed at improving efficiencies and expanding production capacity at PPC Zimbabwe (Private) Limited (PPCZ).
The companies said the immediate focus will be on improving operational efficiencies at PPCZ’s existing Zimbabwean operations, with the aim of increasing clinker and cement output from current assets.
In addition, the collaboration will include an assessment of capital expenditure and investment requirements for the possibility of building a new integrated cement plant in Zimbabwe, which could lift clinker and cement production beyond present levels, depending on feasibility and approvals.
PPC chief executive Matias Carderelli said the MoA forms part of the group’s strategic direction, citing PPC’s position in the local market and expectations of increased construction activity. “The signing of this MoA is of key strategic importance to PPC. We are the leading cement producer in Zimbabwe, with an excellent footprint and we are operating in an environment where the construction sector is showing solid growth potential,” Carderelli said.

He added that PPCZ has recorded improved performance recently, saying: “PPCZ’s cement sales and results have increased over the past two years, and we are now starting to prepare ourselves for the next growth phase.”
PPCZ managing director Ndima Rawana said the partnership is expected to bring technical support from Sinoma, which he described as “the world’s leading integrated solutions provider for cement technology, equipment and engineering services”.
“Collectively, we aim to improve efficiencies and production levels at our current assets and potentially establishing new clinker and cement production capacity in Zimbabwe,” Rawana said.
PPC said any potential new investment in Zimbabwe would be assessed in line with the group’s capital allocation framework and would be subject to internal and external investment hurdles and approval processes.
The company framed the move as consistent with its wider turnaround plan, known as Awaken the Giant, which is focused on unlocking internal value and pursuing projects intended to support sustainable, profitable growth for stakeholders.
