SAKUNDA Holdings chief operations officer Mberikwazvo Chitambo has been appointed patron of Castle Lager Premiership side Manica Diamonds, as the club continues to reshape its leadership structures.
Manica Diamonds confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, describing the appointment as part of efforts to strengthen stability within the club.
“Congratulations to our new patron, Mberikwazvo Chitambo. We extend our deepest gratitude for rallying behind Manicaland Diamonds FC. Your support leadership and belief in our vision inspire us to reach greater heights,” the statement read.
The appointment comes soon after the club’s recent Premiership fixture against Dynamos, with Manica Diamonds set to meet Dynamos again on Sunday at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare.
The Evans Kamombo-financed outfit has also recently appointed ZANU PF Youth League deputy national political commissar Taurai Kundishaya as secretary general, as the club’s new leadership team takes shape.
Since the change of ownership, the club has reported improved confidence among supporters and renewed interest from potential sponsors under president Evans Kamombo.
Kamombo has previously said his decision to buy the team was driven by a desire to keep Premiership football in Manicaland Province, aligning the move with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s “leaving no one and no place behind” development message.
Sunday’s match against Dynamos at Sakubva Stadium is expected to draw significant attention, with supporters watching closely as Manica Diamonds continue their rebuilding efforts on and off the pitch.
