The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has commended Highlanders and Dynamos supporters for what it described as disciplined behaviour during Sunday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium, which ended 1-1.

The fixture, often referred to as the “Battle of Zimbabwe”, has in previous seasons been associated with crowd disturbances, particularly when contentious refereeing decisions are made. In its statement issued on Monday, 22 June, police said there were no reports of violence or hooliganism before, during or after the match.

“The ZRP commends soccer fans for the cooperation and discipline they displayed during the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC at Barbourfields Stadium on 21 June 2026,” the police said.

The ZRP also praised officers deployed for the match, saying their policing approach helped maintain a safe environment at the stadium.

“The police officers deployed for the match showed professionalism and exemplary conduct in maintaining law and order,” the statement said.

“Their performance reflected both local and international best practices in the policing of high-profile soccer matches, contributing to a safe, secure and peaceful environment throughout the event.”

On the pitch, Highlanders took the lead in the first half after referee Brighton Chimene awarded a penalty when Mongameli Tshuma was brought down in the box by Clive Mandivei. Benjamin Adeogun converted from the spot.

Dynamos equalised in the second half through Frank Agyemang, who finished after Perfect Chikwende worked down the left and provided a pass into the area.

For football followers in Mashonaland Central who regularly travel to big Premier Soccer League fixtures, the ZRP statement is likely to be welcomed as it highlights a calmer matchday atmosphere, with policing and supporter conduct both credited for preventing the flare-ups that have previously disrupted high-profile games.
