Minister of Energy and Power Development July Moyo has officially commissioned a 153-kilowatt solar power plant at Nzvimbe Business Centre in Ward 31, Makoni South Constituency.

According to information released on the project, the solar installation spans 11.36 kilometres and has been connected to 13 key institutions. These include Nzvimbe Primary School, Nzvimbe Secondary School, Nzvimbe Clinic, Nzvimbe Business Centre, Nzvimbe Police Base and a NetOne base station.

The same power system has also been extended to 63 households, churches and community boreholes, widening access to electricity for services and daily use.

Rural electrification projects such as this are increasingly being viewed as practical responses to power challenges, especially for critical services like healthcare facilities, schools and telecommunications infrastructure. Community boreholes connected to power supplies can also improve the reliability of water access, particularly during dry periods when demand rises.

While the project was commissioned in Manicaland province, similar solar and rural electrification initiatives remain a key interest for communities in Mashonaland Central, where clinics, schools, business centres and boreholes often require more stable and affordable energy solutions.
