Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested a 41-year-old man, Venancio Muchazondida, after intercepting 48 boxes of suspected smuggled drugs and other substances at the Beitbridge Border Post.
Police said the consignment is valued at about US$12 000.
According to ZRP, the drugs were concealed inside Maq washing powder boxes and wrapped in black plastic in an alleged attempt to evade detection during border inspections.
A Nissan Elgrand, registration number ADG 3066, was also seized and is alleged to have been used in the smuggling operation, police said.
Authorities have again warned members of the public against drug trafficking and substance abuse, amid continued concern over the impact of illicit drugs on communities.
ZRP did not immediately release further details on the specific drugs recovered or when Muchazondida is expected to appear in court.
