The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern reminder to motorists about the legal requirement to display valid number plates on vehicles in accordance with the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act Chapter 13:14. Authorities have warned that any vehicle found operating without proper registration plates will be impounded until the necessary documentation is completed with the relevant authorities.
This enforcement measure applies to all vehicles, whether family-owned, public transport, company assets, or government and privately-owned vehicles. “Motorists and vehicle owners are expected to adhere to these regulations to contribute to the maintenance of law and order in the country,” stated Commissioner Nyathi.
The ZRP has also expressed concern over the growing trend of vehicles being sold without proper transfer of ownership within the required two weeks. Investigations have revealed cases where vehicles are resold multiple times while remaining registered under the original owner’s name, creating complications when such vehicles are involved in incidents warranting police intervention.
Commissioner Nyathi emphasised that vehicle sellers, buyers, and current owners will all be held accountable for any criminal acts linked to improperly registered vehicles. “The law is clear, and we will take action against all parties involved in these violations,” he added.
The ZRP has called on motorists to prioritise compliance with registration processes and assist in fostering a safer and more orderly road environment.
